I MET A NICE JEWISH GIRL ONCE

It was 8 years after I had graduated from high school in Texas.  I found myself at the office of an employment company owned by the ex-head cheerleader of my  class. I was there to test my keyboard speed. I was a bit nervous. I don't know why.  It's not like it was a job interview.

Sitting in the quiet waiting room was a nice looking  gentle woman with beautiful  blue eyes and blonde hair. She wore glasses. She was about 5 feet 3 inches with a sweet smile. She looked to be about 22.

I said hello, my name is Joe.  She introduced herself as Sarah. She had come home from Houston to take care of her mother in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas. She said her career could wait. The big city was going anyhere.

She said she was Jewish. Then my ex-classmate called her in to take the test.

I sat there alone and waited my turn.  I thought about how wonderful Sarah was.  She to the naked eye could be seen as ordinary.  She was no Laura the ex-cheerleader Livestock Show beauty contestant.

No. SARAH was more BEAUTIFUL.  Her exterior beauty matched the one inside her.  She was willing to come back, take a job with a temp service AND Care for her MOTHER.  THAT  made her a wonderful Treasure. A Tesoro.

Now here I am all  those years later taking care of my 94 year old Mom. I often think of Sarah and wonder how her life turned out.

In that brief magical time WE got to know each other WE discovered WE both had a disdain of nursing homes. WE agreed "warehousing loved ones " was never an option.  I had told her about visiting my 89 year old great-grandmother as a kid.  She looked scared and sad in that nursing home. I will never forget that.

SARAH made a Huge Impression on Me.

Now as i am much older looking for the better half of me I marvel at how Perfect Sarah was a potential match. She was beautiful, intelligent, compassionate, kind and witty.

What else could I Want and Need?
